IHG Hotels redeemable on Points in Dubai and UAE

The InterContinental Hotels Group (IHG) offers great coverage in Dubai and across the United Arab Emirates (UAE). There are over 25 IHG hotels in UAE and another 10+ in the pipeline. These hotels are also available on points, and it’s a good destination to redeem your points, depending on where you find the best value for those points.

IHG has a good mix of hotel brands under its portfolio:

According the ThePointsGuy’s latest valuations, IHG points can be valued at $0.006/point. Our analysis in Dubai values an IHG point more conservatively at $0.005/point.

While you don’t pay taxes and fees if you redeem points, you would still have to pay the UAE Tourism Fee of AED 15 – AED 20 per night. Also, IHG Rewards Club unfortunately does not offer the 5th night free on every 4 nights booked on points (unlike Marriott and Hilton).

And remember, as a general thumb rule, almost always redeeming your points (any loyalty program) in summer in Dubai and UAE is a bad deal. You’re better off paying cash for your stay.

IHG eliminated their award chart and moved to dynamic pricing in May 2020.

It’s a pretty good roundup of IHG Hotels across the UAE. I would love to see IHG open something like a Holiday Inn Express or Staybridge Suites in Al Ain.
